Quick Things You Can Do:

Coming Up:

Build 22 – The foundation, block-work and driveway were completed in early October. Today (Thursday, 4/16) we’re working on the siding and the back deck.  Drywall comes next.

Volunteering as a construction worker is fun, a real learning experience, and a great way to add value to Build #22, the selected Habitat Family, and the community at large.

We typically work each Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 to 12:00 or 1:00 depending upon what we’re doing and the weather.  You might want to work 1 day/week – that’s fine.  Our Volunteer Coordinator keeps volunteers up-to-speed concerning the construction activities scheduled for the week.

We work as a team under the leadership of our Construction Managers, Alex & Ralph.

To volunteer, please complete the Volunteer Registration Form found in our Volunteer Page or call the ReStore.

We need your help, no experience needed.

Visit this website frequently, we’ll keep the status of Build #22 up-to-date.

Build 22 Groundbreaking – July 31, 2023

Build 22 Groundbreaking 7/31/2023
Tiffany Frazier breaks ground for her new home

Tiffany Frazier used a golden shovel to break the ground on the site of her new home in Heathsville – the Swann Harbor subdivision in Northumberland County, the twenty-second home the Habitat chapter will build.  The ceremony attendees included Sandra Baxter, Christopher Dameron, Bob Dunstan, Jim Dullea, Michael Florino, Melise Graham, Ralph Hendrickson, Construction Manager Alex Mason, Gordon Nelson, Riley Partlow, Al Ross, Cindy and Jim Roth, Ken Shepard, Mason Washington and Habitat Board Chair Eddy Whichard.

Two important milestones were reached on Monday July 31st.  In the first, Tiffany Frazier, the latest Lancaster/Northumberland Habitat for Humanity homeowner selectee, turned over the symbolic first shovel at the groundbreaking ceremony on her lot in the Swann Harbor section of Heathsville.

The second milestone was an important one.  “Tiffany’s future home will be the 22nd house built in Lancaster and Northumberland counties since the local affiliate’s establishment in 1998,” reports LNHH Board President Eddy Whichard.  In keeping with the vision of Habitat International that everyone deserves a decent place to live, L/NHH has selected a deserving homeowner, organized volunteers and partners, and fulfilled the dream of home ownership for 21 local families so far.

It will take several months until build 22 is completed and Tiffany can move in with her family.  Her pride of ownership will be even greater since she will have participated in the construction, volunteering at least 150 hours of “sweat equity” in the building process or working with the ReStore.

Habitat ReStore Wins Award

Delinda with the Award
ReStore on Main Street

Lancaster/Northumberland Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore at 460 North Main Street Kilmarnock received a Third Place Award from Habitat for Humanity Virginia for highest net income for a small area, 2020-2022.  After having to close the store for several months following the devastating tornado in May 2021, this award is particularly significant.  The ReStore bore the brunt of the damage to the building it shares with Sal’s Pizza and One Stop. To complete the transition to the new post-tornado look, the store now features a bold new sign made and installed by Kilmarnock Lettering Company.

Board President Eddy Whichard credits the “resolute focus our Board has and the individual leadership skills of the Board and ReStore Manager Delinda Nelson.”  Nelson was hired to restart the store after the tornado damage was repaired and the store reopened on 8 November 2021.  Nelson has built a team that has turned the store into a thriving and welcoming business, meeting the needs of the community, and helping to fund construction of Habitat homes.  Nelson credits the community “for the amazing support through donations and patronage at the ReStore.”

In the first quarter of 2023, ReStore sales have set new records.  Due to high demand from the community, the store started opening from 10am – 2pm on the first Saturday of each month.  Nelson regularly posts photos of new arrivals to the store on Habitat’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/LN.Habitat.  The store welcomes volunteers to help with donation processing, inventory management, and donation pickups.  Contact Nelson at the store, call on 804-435-3461, or send an email to habitat22482@gmail.com

2 Homeowner Mortgages Paid-In-Full

On March 28th, we celebrated the full payout of 2 Habitat homes, Builds #2 and #3.  Ms. Ball and Ms. Fisher have been in their homes 25 years and their mortgages are paid-in-full.

The celebration was held at Lancaster Community Library.  What a joy!!!

This is a great example – how Habitat and homeowner families partner to create a rewarding outcome.

We look forward to having a celebration like this every year…

Ms. Ball, Eddy and Ms. Fisher
