Volunteer
Lancaster/Northumberland Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Though most have no construction experience, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership. In 2011, we were pleased to host our first Apostle Build, where a group of local churches joined together, providing much of the financial support and volunteer work crews needed to build a house. This house will be home to our most recent homebuyer, a Kilmarnock Police Officer and her family. It was our honor to build a home with this woman, who works so hard to keep us safe, in conjunction with so many concerned neighbors in our community of faith.
Habitat volunteers contribute more than muscle. Creativity, strategy, and technical skills are among the many invaluable traits volunteers bring to the organization. With minimal paid staff, Lancaster/Northumberland Habitat depends upon volunteer committees for support with projects like Family Selection and Empowerment, Site Selection, Fund Raising, Building, Volunteer Coordination, and Publicity. Volunteers on our Advisory Board contribute expertise in such areas as Church Relations, Finance, Real Estate/Development, and Marketing.
We invite volunteers to help us build, assist in the office, serve on committees, and help with special projects that benefit the organization. Time commitments vary; some volunteers dedicate several days per week to Lancaster/Northumberland Habitat and others spend just a few hours each month working on projects. As a volunteer for Lancaster/Northumberland Habitat, you can choose to volunteer as little or as often as you would like. All of these positions are a tremendous help that directly or indirectly result in the construction of simple, decent homes.
