Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort. Habitat has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand-up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Lancaster/Northumberland Habitat for Humanity began in 1998 as the local Habitat affiliate. Since that time, we have constructed 21 homes and served hundreds of families. Our financial support comes from the community:
Our Board is a “working Board” composed of interested volunteers who contribute their time and expertise. We are very proud of our Board and the many individuals who have served in that capacity since 1998.
The ReStore began operations in 2015 and recently won 3rd Place Most Profitable ReStore in a small population area in Virginia – we are very proud of this accomplishment.
This accomplishment is very important because it means that every dollar contributed to Habitat goes to home building or home repair. All of our Habitat expenses (insurance, rent, electricity, internet service, office supplies, staff expenses, etc. etc.) are supported by the ReStore. PLUS, the ReStore operates at a profit – so the ReStore, in-part, funds our homes too!!! Again, this is a very big accomplishment.
Our ReStore is focused on 2 primary goals:
